James Watson

Director General

James Watson joined Eurometaux as Director General in December 2024, bringing over 25 years of experience in policy, advocacy, and public speaking. Prior to this role, James served as Secretary General of Eurogas, where he led the European gas industry association for five years.

Before his tenure at Eurogas, James was Chief Executive Officer of SolarPower Europe, the European solar industry association, and worked as Director of Public Affairs at Weber Shandwick, specialising in energy and trade policy.

Violaine coordinates Eurometaux's Chemicals Management activities, since 2012.

She studied medicine and industrial toxicology at the Catholic University of Louvain,  and obtained her PhD in Public Health in 2005. She worked as a researcher at the University's Industrial Toxicology and Occupational Medicine Unit  for 8 years before joining Eurometaux in 2005, to manage all scientific activities and projects.

Adina Georgescu

Adina joined Eurometaux in July 2022 and leads our Energy and Climate Change department.

A lawyer by education, Adina has 15+ experience in policies related to the energy market, climate change and environment, security of energy supply.

Previously, she worked in the European Commission and in the Romanian Ministry of Economy, at the aluminium company Alro and as advisor of the Romanian Prime Minister.

Kamila Slupek

Kamila joined Eurometaux in March 2017 and she is in charge of the Sustainability Department.


Her professional experience includes working in an environmental consultancy (eko-net.pl) advising amongst others on the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). Later she worked for the household appliance industry and the machine tools sector. Among the topics she followed: energy efficiency, e-waste, ecodesign, standardisation and EU funded projects. 


Kamila studied Environmental Protection and Management in Poland at Gdansk University of Technology (BSc) and Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun (MSc).

Sounia Mourabit

Sounia joined Eurometaux in August 2024 and heads the Trade and Economics Department.

Sounia has been focussing on International and European Trade law and policy for over 15 years. Prior to joining Eurometaux she worked at an international law firm in Brussel and was legal counsel for the aluminium trade association.

She holds a Masters in Law from the Free University Brussels (VUB) as well as an LLm from Harvard law school.

Martina Bassan

Martina joined Eurometaux in November 2024, where she now heads the Communications Department.

Before joining Eurometaux, Martina was in charge of advocacy and communications for a prominent industry association in Brussels. She also completed a Blue Book traineeship with the European Commission, focusing on strategic communications. Previously, she taught China’s foreign policy at the Paris School of International Affairs.

Martina holds a Master’s in Chinese Studies, an Executive Master’s in European Public Affairs & Communications, and a Ph.D. in Political Science.

Originally from Italy, she speaks in Italian, French, English, and Chinese, with basic proficiency in German and Dutch.

Hugo Waeterschoot

Hugo works on activities related to chemicals management at Eurometaux. He has been closely involved in REACH and CLP discussions since 2002, and now represents the metals sector as an observer in ECHA-REACH committees. 

Hugo has an educational background in ecotoxicology and environmental management and economics from Ghent University, as well as a degree from Vlerick management school. He had more than 15 years of experience in industry amongst others on chemicals management aspects before joining Eurometaux.

Simon Cook

Chemicals Management Advisor

Simon joined the Chemicals Management Department in March 2021, to provide support on recent EU flagship regulatory developments such as the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability.

Simon is a Materials Scientist with a degree and PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK. His 27-year work experience includes 20 years in the mining industry and 2 years in the industry (metal) association space.

During the last years, his focus has been on market access issues for metals, including product stewardship and regulatory affairs.

Federica Iaccino

Chemicals Management Consultant

Since 2012, Federica supports the Eurometaux Chemicals Management team on all REACH related activities with impact on the non-ferrous metals sector and is involved in the development of adequate scientific methodology for the assessment of complex inorganic substances.

Federica has been working on the application of the EU REACH Regulation, since its very beginning, supporting registrants with their REACH duties, dossier preparation and alternative testing strategy. 

Federica holds a MSc in Environmental Engineering (Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy) and a European MSc in Risk Assessment and Risk Analysis (University of Milan, Italy). 

 

Lorenzo Zullo

Lorenzo joined the Eurometaux Chemicals Management Team in 2016 to provide support on REACH-related activities.

He previously spent 9 years in the European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers’ Association, where he coordinated and managed chemicals and health & safety industry actions; besides supporting the enhancement of supply chain interactions and relations with European authorities. Lorenzo is also the Founder and Managing Director of Chemycal.com, a pioneering web-based tool that he personally designed in 2011 to monitor chemical regulatory systems around the world.

Lorenzo holds a MSc in Environmental Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano (Milan, Italy), a MSc in Chemical Engineering and a MA in Sustainable Infrastructures from the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden).

Lara Van de Merckt

Lara joined Eurometaux in February 2021 as Chemical Management Policy Officer to handle the Water dossiers as well as different projects where data mining and web platform work is needed. As a trainee in Eurometaux, she worked on different projects such as the Metals toolbox and Metals Gateway.

Lara holds a MSc in Biology and Environmental Sciences (Catholic University of Louvain (UCL), Belgium) with a master thesis in ecotoxicology.

Born in Belgium, Lara speaks French and English fluently, with a basic knowledge of Dutch.

Laura Fazio Bellacchio

Laura joined Eurometaux in September 2017 and supports Eurometaux’s Communication and Sustainability departments.

She previously worked in a communication agency organising events for the European institutions.

Laura holds a BA in European Languages and Cultures and a MA in Business Communications. An Italian native, she is fluent in English and French and also speaks Spanish and learns Dutch.

Ainhoa GONZALEZ

Ainhoa joined Eurometaux in November 2022 as Chemical Management Policy Officer, and she focuses on the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability, CARACAL and Risk Management.

She previously worked in a public affairs consultancy, and in regional government representation to the EU, covering environmental, and chemicals policy, including REACH and CLP.

Ainhoa holds a BA in International Relations and a MA in EU International Relations and Diplomacy studies.

Born in Spain, Ainhoa is fluent in English and Basque, speaks French and Turkish, and has notions of Chinese.

Andrea Pellini

Andrea joined Eurometaux in November 2024 as a Chemical Management Policy Officer. Prior to joining Eurometaux, he gained valuable experience working as Process Engineer and Researcher in the world of battery recycling and lithium recovery, where he worked on optimizing processes for sustainable resource management.

Andrea holds a BSc and a MSc in Industrial Chemistry with a focus in Sustainability and Recycling technologies. Italian native, he is fluent in English and he has a working proficiency in Spanish.

Bernardo Nascimento

Bernardo joined Eurometaux in May 2023 as Energy & Climate Change Policy Officer where he focuses on decarbonisation files, particularly CBAM and ETS.

He has worked in the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as a researcher for a European think tank. Most recently, he completed an internship in Economy and Policy at ECSDA.

Bernardo holds a BA in International Relations, a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Policies of Security and Defence and an MScEcon in International Relations. A Portuguese native, he is fluent in English, with a working knowledge of Spanish.

Armand Camboulives joined Eurometaux in November 2024 as Energy & Climate Change Policy Officer, where he focuses on energy policies.

He previously worked as Policy Officer in the European Affairs Department of a major energy utility and in an association representing the gas distribution infrastructure operators.

Armand holds a Master’s degree in European policies and Public Affairs from Sciences Po Strasbourg and is a graduate from the College of Europe. He is fluent in French and English, and speaks Spanish and Romanian.

Carmine Carinci

Carmine joined Eurometaux in September 2022, as International Trade & Economics Intern. He has experience both in the public and private sectors across different EU countries.

While enrolled in the Advanced Master in European Studies at Universite’ Libre de Bruxelles, he already holds a BA in Political Sciences and an MA in International Relations.

Italian native, he is fluent in English and proficient in Spanish.

Ailsa is the second Chemicals Management Assistant. She assists the Chemicals Management Department’s Managers and Director.

She is also responsible for general administration and accounting and the edition of the monthly Chemicals Management News.

Ailsa joined Eurometaux in June 2011 after working for 12 years in a Business Centre in Brussels.

Diana joined Eurometaux in 2021 and supports Eurometaux's Chemical management department.

She covered several professional roles such as office manager, financial and procurement officer, project manager working in different sectors like IT, legal and digital sector and skills for a variety of.

She is fluent in English and French.

Natalya joined Eurometaux in December 2021, to provide general support to the Team and coordinate the meeting centre.

Previously, she worked as an Administrative Assistant in a company which offers solutions and products for aerospace.

She holds a Bachelor in Law. Russian native, she’s fluent in English and Finnish and also speaks French and Armenian.

Eduard Adell Fernández

Eduard joined Eurometaux in September 2024 as a Communications and Public Affairs intern, assisting both the Communications and Sustainability departments.

He has previous experience in political campaigns and completed an internship in the European Parliament as a communications assistant.

Eduard holds a BA in Social Sciences and a MA in Political Communication. Spanish native, he speaks Catalan, Galician and English.
